NE Disabled Sports Gears Up for Annual Ski Race Fundraiser ...

Studies show that participation in sports and exercise yields both physical and mental benefits. From psychological gains, including improvement of mood-state and increased self-esteem, to sociological benefits, such as promoting social interaction and friendship, the benefits are unparalleled. So, it comes as no surprise that an increase of physical activity is commonly recommended to those with physical disability. But, where can one go to support and/or get involved with such an initiative?

Look no farther than New England Disabled Sports and its 23rd annual Kostick Kup ski race at Loon Mountain Resort in Lincoln, NH. This important event is one of the largest fundraisers to benefit the non-profit organization, which provides year round adaptive sport instruction to adults and children, in New England and throughout the US, with physical and cognitive disabilities. In addition to offering skiing and snowboard lessons in the winter, New England Disabled Sports also offers adaptive cycling, kayaking, waterskiing, and more, during the warm weather months.

Started as a small memorial event, the Kostick Kup has evolved into an annual race, dinner and auction. This year?s race will take place on Saturday, March 10th at Loon Mountain and will be immediately followed by a dinner and auction at the Beacon Resort in Lincoln. Organizers expect over 400 skiers and guests to participate.

?This year?s event is bigger than ever,? stated Roy Whitaker, Executive Director of New England Disabled Sports.? ?Our sponsors and donors have been very generous in their donations once again this year.? Whether the donation is large or small, the New England Disabled Sports community is grateful for the support.?? Whitaker added, ?It?s never too late to donate and join us.?

New England Disabled Sports relies completely on fundraising to fulfill its mission of ?offering sports and recreation within a safe, supportive, fun, boundary-free environment for individuals with disabilities who require adaptive instruction.? All funds raised during the Kostick Kup ski race, dinner and auction go directly to supporting the programs and equipment for the organization?s year-round activities.
