Rumour has it that Apple intends to drop the iPhone 5 from its product line-up after introducing the new iPhoe 5S and iPhone Lite. It's expected that these two models will be released later this year.
The American research institute Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, states that there's an enormous demand for a cheaper iPhone. Research shows that the iPhone 5 only constitutes 52% of all current iPhone sales in the United States. Instead, consumers opt for the more affordable iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S models. This seems a good indication that there's demand for a new mid-range Apple smartphone.
You'd expect Apple would offer its iPhone 5 at a lower price after introducing the iPhone 5S, allowing it to serve as a 'cheaper' alternative. Since Apple is working on an iPhone Lite, this wouldn't be required. The iPhone Lite is to cover the mid-range segment, and all older iPhone models will be discontinued. This involves the iPhone 5, as well as older models.
The iPhone Lite will make the iPhone 5 obsolete?
