Keep Your Drinks Afloat With a Pool Noodle Barge

Keep Your Drinks Afloat With a Pool Noodle Barge

Summer's in full swing, and nothing beats relaxing at the pool with a few cold drinks. If you want to keep them close at hand while you swim, a pool noodle can provide sufficient buoyancy for an awesome beer-holding boat.

Instructables user macgeek shares his plans for a blown-up version of the previously-mentioned beverage barge. All you need is a pool noodle cut to fit the four sides of a plastic storage container, and some string to hold it in place around the edge. The resulting boat will hold more than enough drinks and ice to last until you're pruny, and should be wide and low enough that it won't capsize if it's caught in the wake of a cannonball. Be sure to check out the Instructable for more photos.

Why it Helps Your Internet Exposure to Find a Great Online Marketing Agency

Deciding to hire an online marketing agency to help with your online website and search engine optimization is usually a great idea and can boost your internet exposure tremendously. There are thousands upon thousands of websites on the internet today and making yours current and up to date is no small task. Your internet business or internet services can be greatly improved in online appeal by trusting your website to that of an online marketing agency that can make sure that your site is up to date and getting the proper search engine optimization possible. We can look at some of the things that an online marketing agency can do for their customers on the internet.

Internet competition between websites grows each and every day and knowing how to make your website be noticed online is tremendously important to success on the internet. An online marketing agency can not only improve your website in appearance, but they can also increase the amount of customer exposure that you will receive by working to maximize your search engine optimization strategies. Regardless of your company size, type of business or budget, a good online marketing agency can assist your online persona and exposure.

Online marketing agencies will first determine what your budget and marketing package options might be. Packages offered by different online marketing agencies vary in price and scope. You should be able to find several online marketing agencies that focus solely on internet websites.

Identifying what niche your internet product, business or service falls into is one helpful thing that the marketing company can help you identify. Your website content may even cross over into other areas that you had not previously considered. For instance if you sell fur boots, you might want to be able to be found in a search for boots, winter boots, snow apparel, fur apparel, animal fur products, imitation fur products to wear and so on. The online marketing agency will then get keywords worked into your website that expose your site to being linked by those that are in search of what your website content pertains too.

Likely you will want an online marketing agency that is also a specialist in SEO marketing. You want to have your website come up as a top number in a list of responses to something that has been searched for in your niche and a good SEO marketing staff can help you get this done. As there are so many websites to compete with today, there is an even stronger need for you to have an SEO marketing team working for you. Finding a good online marketing agency can get your website up to professional standards and also provide an increase in online exposure.

New Boston Globe owner has had success in baseball

BOSTON (AP) ? John W. Henry took a backward ballclub in a dilapidated park and transformed it into a two-time World Series champion that is one of baseball's model franchises.

As the owner of The Boston Globe, he will try to turn around a newspaper that ? like many other major metro dailies ? is shedding staff, subscribers and advertisers as it makes the transition into the Internet age.

Henry agreed to buy the Globe along with the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and the Boston Metro for $70 million, a fraction of the $1.1 billion The New York Times Co. paid 20 years ago. Henry apparently made this deal without his Red Sox partners, though he said in a statement that more information will soon be available "concerning those joining me in this community commitment and effort."

The son of southern Illinois soybean farmers now worth an estimated $1.5 billion, Henry was a minority owner of the New York Yankees and the sole owner of the Florida Marlins when he led a group that bought the Red Sox for $660 million in 2002. (The original group included The New York Times, which sold the last of its 17.5 percent ownership last year.)

They soon set out to preserve Fenway Park while taking a wrecking ball to most everything else that had mired the franchise in failure for more than eight decades.

Henry, who made his money by taking a mathematical approach to the commodities markets, brought a similar method to the baseball diamond, hiring the statistically savvy Theo Epstein, then 28 years-old, as the youngest general manager in baseball history. They hired statistical pioneer Bill James as a consultant, putting the Red Sox at the forefront of the revolution that had just begun to take hold in front offices long dominated by old-time and hidebound scouting types.

But, perhaps more importantly, the new owners turned what had long been a stagnant family business into a revenue spigot.

They took NESN, which had been almost exclusively an outlet for Red Sox and Boston Bruins games, into a full-fledged sports network. (Not every effort ? like the sports-themed dating show "Sox Appeal" ? was a success.) And they spent more than $285 million turning the once-doomed Fenway Park into a modern ? well, as modern as a 100-year-old ballpark can be, anyway ? sporting venue.

With seats above the Green Monster and a roof deck in right field, a high-tech scoreboard and new concourses and concessions, Fenway sold out 820 consecutive games ? by official count, anyway ? the longest such streak in professional sports history. Thousands more file through the turnstiles 12 months a year, paying up to $16 just to see the park when it is empty.

Though fans sometimes chafed at the team's new businesslike approach, the initiatives helped pay for a player payroll that grew from $75.5 million in 2000 to more than $130 million by 2004. That year, the Red Sox won the World Series for the first time in 86 years, ending one of the longest title droughts in sports.

They won again three years later.

Henry was also a different kind of owner than Bostonians had grown accustomed to.

While most owners of the local franchises had treated their teams like family fiefdoms or corporate cash registers ? or both ? Henry engaged with fans, chatting with them on Internet message boards (he would also became an early adopter on Twitter). He spent less time in his luxury box and more in his dugout-side seats, and was once seen running the bases on the Fenway diamond with the woman who is now his wife.

And Henry kept looking beyond baseball.

Through a sister company, the Red Sox owners bought into NASCAR as co-owners of Roush Fenway Racing; soccer, by purchasing the Liverpool FC of the English Premier League; and basketball, through a sponsorship deal with LeBron James. Their business offshoot, known as New England Sports Ventures, has also dabbled in marketing for college sports and professional golf.

In buying a newspaper, Henry enters an industry in turmoil and joins a progression of publishers who have tried to figure out how to balance the free-flowing information of the internet with the costs of quality journalism.

While providing no clues, Henry vowed to try.

"The Boston Globe's award-winning journalism as well as its rich history and tradition of excellence have established it as one of the most well-respected media companies in the country," he said in his statement. "This is a thriving, dynamic region that needs a strong, sustainable Boston Globe playing an integral role in the community's long-term future."

Algeria: Public lunch protests mandatory fasting

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) ? About 300 people in a restive northern region of Algeria joined a public lunch Saturday during Ramadan to protest what they say is persecution of people who refuse to observe the religious fast.

The protest lunch was highly unusual for North Africa, where people can be arrested for not fasting during the Muslim holy month.

It was held as a demonstration against the decision of security forces to question three young people who were eating outside last week last week in the Kabylie region during the 18-hour daily fasting period.

"We called this gathering to denounce the inquisition and persecution of citizens who, because of their beliefs, refuse to observe the fast," said Bouaziz Ait Chebib, head of the local Kabylie Autonomy Movement.

The Berbers of the Kabylie are known for a more secular outlook in general than Algeria's majority Arabs, and they have had a historically tense relationship with Algeria's government.

In previous years, Kabylie residents who refused to fast during the month of Ramadan faced charges of "acting against Islam."

The lunch in Tizi-Ouzou, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Algiers, was not contested by either local Islamists or authorities.

MSNBC Guests Absolutely Certain That Wildly Popular Texas 20-Week Abortion Ban Will Doom GOP

A panel of MSNBC regulars on Friday dug into the public opinion data surrounding how a Texas ban on abortion procedures after 20 weeks of gestation is being received and concluded that the Republican Party risks its very viability as a political party by supporting this measure? I?m kidding! They didn?t dig into any data. But they did agree ? based primarily on that funny tingling sensation in the ol? trick knee, one must surmise ? that the GOP is largely doomed if they continue to back the nationally popular ban on abortions after 20 weeks.

The panel began by observing, correctly, that members of the Texas legislature who are asserting that state Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) should have to foot the costs of a special session of the legislature caused by her successful filibuster against the 20-week abortion ban in June are engaging in a ploy for publicity.

?Of course, it?s ridiculous,? LiberalOasis.com blogger Bill Scher correctly observed. ?You don?t make someone pay money for exercising their rights as a legislature and using proper legislative rules.?

He is correct, but the panel regrettably did not stop there.

?Long term, nationally, the optics are terrible for the Republicans,? Scher continued. ?If they care about winning the Senate in 2014 and care about 2016, they can?t be extending the war on women.?

He added that ?obsessing? about a 20-week abortion ban which ?punishes? women would likely doom the party?s political prospects far beyond the borders of the Lone Star State.

?What Wendy Davis is symptomatic, and so are the Castro brothers [Julian and Joaqu?n Castro], of is the changing face and demographics of Texas,? said Voto Latino President Maria Teresa Kumar, retreating to the safe, well-trodden ground of racial politics.

?It?s a matter they have to modernize in order to survive as a political party,? she concluded.

More Americans support maintaining legal abortion in all/most cases than do not, of course. But, according to opinion polling, the debate over whether to move back the established limit on abortions from 24 weeks to 20 weeks is a debate that has largely been concluded. For those opposed to a 20-week ban, it?s a debate they lost.

If scientifically accurate measurements of public opinion are your thing, then you will appreciate a Washington Post/ABC News poll published on July 26 that showed 56 percent of respondents approve of reducing the legal limit on abortions to 20 weeks. That includes 60 percent of women.

Lest you believe this poll to be an outlier, a Quinnipiac University poll released on Friday confirmed those results. A total of 55 percent of respondents told Quinnipiac pollsters that they approved of restricting abortions to 20 weeks. That figure includes a plurality of Democrats (46 ? 44 percent), as well as a majority of men (50 percent) and, again, 60 percent of women.

In fact, that Quinnipiac poll found that the only group opposed a 20-week abortion ban were those voters who identified as having ?no religion? whatsoever and self-described liberals. Every other subgroup approved of the measure.

But who needs data when you can adhere to mutually agreed conventional wisdom? That would just muddy the preset conclusions and biases that this panel segment was designed to confirm.
