change management recruitment - Change Management -- An ...

Change management, as the name suggests, is the process of controlling and ordering change within a business, shifting and transitioning individuals, teams and even entire organisations from their current state to a desired future state. It is an organizational process intended to help employees accept and embrace changes to their business environment.

John Kotter defines change management as the utilization of basic structures and tools to control any organizational change effort. Change management's goal is to minimize the impact change has on workers, in order that distractions are avoided and productivity is maximized during the time of transition.

Change management came about as a result of business leaders becoming dissatisfied with the difficulties and failures inherent in creating and implementing changes in a top-down fashion. This was a growing issue throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The solution was the creation of a "change leader" to take responsibility for the people side of any change in infrastructure. The unofficial date of this change was February 1994, with the publication of the first "State of the Change Management Industry" report, in the Consulting News.

There are many types of organizational change, including mission changes, strategic changes, operational changes (including structural changes), technological changes, and changing of attitudes and behaviours of personnel.

Given that such change can be far reaching, there exists vast scope for change management recruitment agencies to play a role, with experienced individuals with a strong track record in high demand for businesses looking to implement a large-scale shift in the way they operate. Given the nature of what these changes might mean, there is also a role for the likes of logistics recruitment agencies to play for example, as companies look to restructure their supply lines in order to fit their new structure.

Given that the process of change within a company is a costly and potentially high-risk endeavour, a great deal of thought and research goes into the process, and organizational change management should always begin with a systematic diagnosis of the current situation in order to determine both the need for change and the capability for change.

This is vital to the success of any project, as the aims must be both realistic and beneficial to the organization in question. In addition, it is important to introduce metrics to the project, in order to see whether progress is being made, and ultimately to justify change.

One final thing of importance is to introduce creative marketing to any change management, as there is the possibility that there may be resistance to any changes, particularly from more long term employees, and these in particular will be necessary to any successful update in a business' operations.
