Mayor Richard Berry announces re-election candidacy

It's official: Albuquerque?Mayor?Richard?Berry will run for a second term.

Berry announced his candidacy on Saturday while having coffee with constituents at a local business.?He was elected into office in 2009 after defeating then-Mayor?Martin?Chavez.

"We have the train on the track if you will, now we just need to get that train down the track," Berry said.

He explained job creation will be a key focus for his campaign. Berry hopes voters consider what he has done for the city when?October elections come around.

"We've driven the?FBI?crime rate to 20 year lows during my first term,?public safety is important to people," Berry said. "I?think the fact that we have brought fiscal accountability and transparency to city hall.?It means a lot to me as a mayor."

Berry said he hopes to encourage residents to keep him in office for a second term.

"We've got a lot done in our first term.?We've got a lot of things we said we were going to do.?We have a promises made, promised kept to this campaign," Berry said.
