NBA, Celtics add to Springfield Armor online auction to benefit tornado victims

The NBA and the Boston Celtics have sweetened the online auction efforts of the Springfield Armor to provide relief for tornado victims.

The NBA has donated a limited-edition 2011 NBA All-Star Game basketball autographed by 23 of the 24 All-Stars, including Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks.

Don?t look too hard for LeBron James? name ? his is the only All-Star signature missing.

A basketball autographed by 2010 No. 1 draft pick John Wall of the Washington Wizards is another item donated by the NBA.

The Celtics have lent their support by donating a basketball signed by every player from the final 2010-11 roster.

Those items are in addition to the Springfield Armor memorabilia as well as the items donated by the New Jersey Nets, the exclusive NBA affiliate of the Armor.

And there could be more coming from the Nets and the NBA.

?Working closely with the Nets and the NBA, they?ve expressed interest in contributing to the final total,? Armor director of marketing and public relations Eli Pearlstein said. ?The Nets and the NBA have been in touch with (the Armor) every day about the auction. We?re very confident about the strength of the single affiliation on the floor and pleased with the way the Nets have worked with us off the floor.?

The auction has been extended to June 22 because of the new items. All proceeds with be donated directly to the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross to assist tornado relief efforts.

Cash contributions are also accepted. Bids and donations can be made by visiting the Armor website or by calling the Armor office at 413-746-3263.
