?Wait Until Your Father Gets Home? No Longer Applies: Dads Dish on How Fatherhood Has Changed

By?Robbie Cape, Co-Founder and CEO of?Cozi.com

My business partner and I, both dads, had the same challenge of keeping track of our families? busy schedulesand as we talked with other families it became clear we weren?t alone. The number one challenge for each of the families we talked to was managing family logistics, and this realization was the spark that led to the creation of a shared calendar focused exclusively on the family called Cozi. Organization is critical to functioning families because at the end of the day if you don?t have things together, it can cause major headaches (forgetting to pick kids up from T-ball practice, having to reschedule your doctor?s appointment for the third time or worse yet, forgetting your anniversary).?

When asked how fatherhood today differs from generations past, more than halfof dads volunteered that the biggest changes are shifts in parents? roles: More moms are working and parents are splitting household tasks more evenly, so dads are much more involved in their children?s lives. The new balance of responsibilities in today?s family was further illustrated by the fact that nearly 10 percentof the dads polled were stay-at-home fathers.

One dad summed it up this way: ?Fathers are much more involved in their kids? lives and activities, as well as home life. ?Wait until your father comes home? does not apply today.?

Of course, with dual working parents, an ever-growing list of extra-curriculars for the kids and multiple other appointments, juggling home life is crazier than ever. Twenty-two percentof dads said one of the biggest changes in this generation is that families are busier than before. When asked about their biggest struggles, seven out of 10 dads cited keeping the family organized as the biggest pain point.Dads are a critical part of the solution: one in four are the main organizers in their families and nearly all?85 percent?said they are somewhat or very involved in managing the family?s schedule. When it comes to keeping the family on track, dads are digital all the way?their favorite organization tools are cell phones, electronic calendars like Cozi and computers. It?s clear that today?s dads are shouldering parenting responsibilities in new ways. Fathers are going the extra mile to be the best dads they can be and get their loved ones organized and on-track. Cozi salutes these involved dads this Father?s Day!??Want to know more about Cozi? ?Read my review on My Life Scoop.?
